Yeti Tundra 65 vs. ORCA 58 Quart: The Best Coolers Comparison

With a single keystroke, you can find thousands of different models of ice chests instantaneously on the internet. Having variety is good. Yes, it is correct that with so many Top Rated Coolers For Camping you have many more choices open to you.

But it makes the task of picking the perfect best ice cooler that works for you and your budget much harder as a result.

Currently, one of the two front-runners on bestselling charts for high performance coolers are the Yeti Tundra 65 and the ORCA 58 Quart. If you’re wondering about which one of the two you should pick, look no further! This short comparison article helps you out.

1. Yeti Tundra 65

Yeti coolers are known for their toughness and heavy duty insulation. They are more or less the go-to brand if you need a cooler that you can absolutely depend on during long camping trips.

The Tundra 65 represents the best that the company has to offer. In all of our tests, the moment that we had the lid closed, the thick insulated walls of the cooler immediately got to work retaining internal temperature. There were definitely no temperature leaks when we checked around the cooler. It was positively airtight.

We set the cooler up with about ten pounds of ice and let it sit outside for as long as it takes to get the ice to melt. It took about 10 days for all of the ice to thaw.

Pushing the envelope even further, we decided to set up a thermometer to see how long it would take for the internal temperature to reach room temperature. It took another 5 days (15 days in total).

The Tundra 65 easily outperformed the majority of the coolers we tested. So, it’s not hard to recommend it if you’re looking for something that can offer raw performance. Not to mention the tough, rotomolded body can withstand a bear attack.

And there are some useful features like a removable basket on top to keep food and essential items that need to be protected from getting soaked. It’s easily the best hard sided cooler for camping.

The only significant disadvantage is that it is expensive and the volume inside is a tad bit smaller than advertised. Still, it is a solid cooler.

2. ORCA 58 Quart

The ORCA 58 Quart is a touch cheaper than the Tundra 65 (their pricings still brush fairly close to one another at $300, however.)

But the performance of the ORCA 58 Quart is still very similar to the Tundra 65. The amount of time it can hold ice, along with the time for the cooler’s internal contents to reach room temperature are both approximately equal to the Tundra 65, alluding to the excellent insulation capability of the cooler.

The ORCA 58 Quart is competitive also in terms of durability. It also has a rotomolded body and is bear resistant, but it still remains a relatively compact cooler in spite of the armoring. The drain’s design is better than the Tundra 65, able to draw out thawed ice more efficiently and quicker, too.

Nonetheless, the ORCA 58 Quart is still an expensive cooler. Its tall body that’s quite narrow in width makes it a little bit annoying to dig through the contents. The handles are awkward to use, too. But these are just minor inconveniences, it is still very much one of the Best Coolers In The World.

Conclusion

So, which one to choose? Because these two are so close together in terms of pricing and performance, arguably, you would not miss out much choosing either. But do remember that the ORCA 58 Quart is priced very slightly lower, so we recommend you to go for this one.
